There are umbrellas...and there are ShadeMakers.

The Isla, the original ShadeMaker, was designed in 1998 by Kiwi sailor and entrepreneur, Russell Bond. Elegant and technically refined, Bond's sporty, nautical design has taken the concept of a sidepost umbrella to a new level of refinement. Marine grade anodized aluminum mast ensures long life in exposed conditions, extra thick sidewalls provide added strength, and marine-grade 100% solution dyed acrylic canopy is fade, rot and mold resistant. This state-of-the-art design folds into a compact vertical format when not in use.

Forget the days of constantly moving your chair to stay in the shade...instead let the Isla keep you shaded all day long with a simple turn or tilt. Use the 360 degree rotation to follow the sun and then block out that early and late day glare by simply sliding the arm into one of two tilt levels.

the wind rating

When installed properly, the Isla sidepost is engineered to handle light to moderate wind conditions in the open (horizontal) position.

VERY IMPORTANT: As winds increase from the light to moderate level, the Isla should be taken out of the tilt position and placed in the horizontal position. Then hook the "stabilizer stays" into place and cinch to provide extra stability. The ISLA tilt positions should not be used if gusty conditions exist.

The following common sense guidelines prevail for the Isla:
1. As winds get stronger or in anticpation of uncertain/severe weather conditions, the canopy should be lowered to the folded position and strapped to the mast.

2. The Isla should always be left in the folded and strapped position when unattended or not is use.

3. Remove and store the entire Isla structure in anticipation of or during severe weather conditions such as strong tropical storms and hurricanes.
